Wild About the Gap: Sunshine After the Storm

Texas weather has a way of reminding us just how powerful nature can be. What started as darkening skies quickly turned into roaring thunder, pounding rain, and hail so large it filled the palms of our hands. For a while it seemed like the storm might never end.

The wind howled, the rain poured, and the sky stayed heavy and gray. Then, just when it felt like the clouds might last forever, something beautiful happened. Through a small gap in the thick blanket of storm clouds, the sun began to peek through. Just a sliver of light—but enough to remind us that the storm was finally passing.

With the calm comes the moment when we step outside and take a look around. Branches scattered, puddles everywhere, and a reminder that storms can leave their mark. We flip the table back over, dry off the chairs, make sure nothing is broken and that the little chickens are all okay. But before any of that, we pause to be thankful.

Here in the Gap, rain is a blessing. Every drop that fell today will soon bring life back to the land. In just a few days the grass will grow greener, wildflowers will begin to bloom, and the trees will stretch a little taller toward the sun. Even the birds seem to know it’s coming, returning to their feeders as the rain fades and the world grows quiet again.

Storms can be loud and messy, but they also bring renewal. Tonight’s thunderstorm reminded us that beauty often follows the roughest weather. And sometimes all it takes is a small break in the clouds to see the light again.

That’s the magic of nature in the Gap.
