This evening, my husband handed me the fortune from his cookie and said, “You need this.”
He wasn’t wrong.

Take time to relax, especially when you don’t have time for it.
This past weekend was our long-awaited fundraising gala. Planning began last fall, and before I knew it, Saturday night had arrived. Months of preparation, countless details, and a whole lot of heart went into making it all come together.
And it did.
From the music filling the room to couples gliding effortlessly across the dance floor… from the excitement of auction winners claiming just what they had hoped for, to the smiles captured at the photo area—it was everything we had envisioned and more. A truly successful night, fueled by generosity and joy.

But behind the scenes? That’s where the real work lives.
The setup. The teardown. The lifting, hauling, organizing, and re-organizing. The kind of work that leaves your body aching in places you didn’t even know existed. I pushed myself well past exhaustion—but somehow, adrenaline carries you through when you’re surrounded by happy faces and a mission that matters.
It’s not until the very end—when the music fades, the last bids are collected, the financials are closed, and everything quiets down—that the exhaustion truly settles in.
And suddenly, that 6 a.m. alarm feels less like a suggestion and more like a cruel joke.
Yet even in the fatigue, my mind is already drifting forward.
What worked? What didn’t? How can we make the next one even better?
Because that’s the thing about passion—you feel the ache, but you also feel the pull to do it all over again.
So tonight, I’m taking that fortune to heart.
I’m resting these sore feet.
I’m easing this tired body.
And, at least for a little while, I’m letting my mind be still.
Because morning will come soon enough.
